Linesman Beaten To Death In Dutch Youth Game

Man dies after suffering attacks in Dutch youth game

A Dutchman who was beaten up by players while officiating a youth game has been pronounced dead.

Richard Nieuwenhuizen, 41, collapsed and was rushed to the hospital hours after players from Amsterdam club Nieuw Sloten punched and kicked him for taking a decision against them.

Nieuwenhuizen’s death has resurrected the whole issue of violence in football macthes.

Fans of Ghana Premier League club Ebusua Dwarfs earlier this year engaged in a similar act of attacking match officials to register their displeasure of their pereformance.

Referee Patrick Kyeremanteng as a result, was lynched by irate fans immediately after the game which Dwarfs lost to Aduana Stars.

The club has since until a fortnight ago were serving a 12-match home ban and a hefty fine for the gross misconduct of their supporters.

The Dutch police in the Nieuwenhuizen case have announced the arrest of three players between the ages of 15 and 16 suspected to be involved in the attacks pending further investigation and the final determination of the case.
