Kotoko coach not bothered by ultra-defensive tag

Asante Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani

Asante Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani says he is not bothered by criticisms of his team being overly defensive.

The champions are the only unbeaten side in the Ghanaian top flight but have failed to get enough wins.

Kotoko have won just thrice in the 10 games played so far this season and drew blank again for the seventh time on Sunday at Ebusua Dwarfs.

Teams have struggled to score against the Porcupine Warriors – giving credence to their superior rear guard.

But some have hit against what appears an overly concentration on defensive solidity to scoring at the other end to win games.

Coach Dramani however says defending is part of the game though refusing it is becoming a specialized area for Kotoko.

“Football is about two things; attacking and defending,” he said after the Dwarfs draw.

“If you don’t have the ball, definitely you have to defend.

“But it is not true that we are being ultra defensive. Otherwise I wouldn’t take out midfielders for strikers (in the game against Dwarfs).”

Kotoko are sixth in the Ghanaian top flight with 16 points – four adrift leaders Medeama.
