Ephson hits hard at Bawumia over ‘propaganda opinion polls’ comment

Ben Ephson

Pollster Ben Ephson has hit hard at the Vice Presidential candidate of the NPP Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for suggesting some of the opinion polls making the headlines are mere propaganda pieces.

Ephson is predicting a 52.2 per cent, one touch victory for incumbent president John Mahama in the December 7 General elections.

Other polls, including the one conducted by the Bureau of National Investigations have also predicted victories for the incumbent.

But speaking at a rally in Nankpanduri, in the Northern Region Dr Mahamudu Bawumia took a swipe at some of the opinion polls.

“We do not want a propaganda government. We want a government that can solve the people’s problems.

“As this election is coming close, they have also resorted to publishing propaganda opinion polls. They are trying to convince us that they are going to win this election.

“But I can assure you and you can assure them that there is going to be a political earthquake in December 7. You will see a transition of power from the NDC to the NPP,” Bawumia charged.

But in a reaction Ben Ephson told Joy News’ Evans Mensah that his polls are credible.

In what he described as a “lenient” reaction to a younger brother, Ephson said:“Propaganda is when in 2008 I told him and his party they will lose 20 seats and they lost 16; Propaganda is when he becomes a running mate in a party of which he does not have a membership card; propaganda is when he as governor of the Bank of Ghana used data from the statistical service and for propaganda purposes attacked them and finally he will be a Vice presidential propaganda [candidate] forever.”

He said December 9 will show whether or not his poll is propaganda.
