The Electoral Commission (EC) in the Northern Region on Wednesday received 233 bags of ballot papers for the December 7 polls.

The ballots papers, which are being distributed to the various districts and constituencies under heavy security, is to assure Ghanaians of the readiness of the EC to conduct a credible and incident free elections.

Mr. Sylvester Kanyi, the Northern Regional Director of the EC, told the GNA that the ballot papers were enough for the elections with no shortage anticipated and that all materials relating to the elections had been received.

Mr. Tiibe Gordon, Logistics Officer of the EC who accompanied the materials to the region, said the EC decided to send the electoral materials in very early to avoid last minute rush that had characterized previous elections.

He said the EC also wanted to ensure that all materials reached their destination in their right quantities for the elections to take off smoothly.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Ebenezer Tetteh, the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Police, said the police would accompany the materials and give it 24-hour security.

He said the materials would be in the custody of the police and the EC at the district levels until the day of the elections when the ballot papers would be released to polling stations.
