Mpanda — A CONTRACTORS firm, Aaersleff-BAM constructing a section of Laela – Sumbawanga in Rukwa region is investigating fuel adulteration in their storage facility.
The Aaersleff -BAM road’s Project Manager, Mr James Aikman, told the ‘Sunday News’ over the phone yesterday that such an anomaly has never happened before.
“We are now probing the adulteration after we discovered that a large quantity of fuel was mixed with water, which has caused a serious loss to our company,” he said.
“We don’t know for sure if it was a foul play or an accident in our storage tanks or perhaps there is water leakage in the storage system, but the actual loss has not yet been established, since the matter is still being investigated,” he added.
Mr Aikman said that the company ‘security swiftly made intervention to prevent vehicles from filling ‘adulterated’ fuel from Kiyanda’s main yard. In a separate development, more than 800 workers at Aaersleff – BAM International Joint Venture, VOF who went on strike last week have resumed duties.
The workers were complaining about the indiscriminate termination of workers and about double standards on vacancies filled by foreigners. Mr Aikman further expounded that all the workers agreed to go back to work after, the Aaerslaff -BAM management team met with Tamico leadership and representatives from workers’ section.
Mr Aikman also maintained that only few workers went on strike and called it illegal because the contractors have been paying them competitive salary package in conformity with Tanzania Labour Laws and that hard workers regardless of race have been awarded handsome bonuses.
Employees told the ‘Sunday News’ at the Aarsleff-BAM’s yard at Kyanda village in Sumbawanga District in the region that they were tired of being mistreated and forced their employers to increase their salary package, as the cost of living keeps increasing.
