The DA can only implement its policies when it becomes the ruling party, leader Helen Zille said on Saturday.

“We can only implement our policies when we are the government. We cannot do so in opposition,” she told delegates at the party’s federal congress in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.

“And we know, that to bring real and lasting change, we must win the national election.”

She said more and more people were voting for the Democratic Alliance.

“That is why we are building a new majority to govern South Africa. Together we are achieving this goal,” Zille said.

“We can see this in our branches, in our structures, in the provinces, and in Parliament.”

She said many people believed the country was moving in the wrong direction. -Sapa
