School heads in Ashanti ‘snub’ REGSEC over exorbitant exams fees

Heads of Junior High Schools in the Ashanti region failed to show up in a meeting organized by the Regional Security Coordinating Council (REGSEC) over alleged charging of unapproved fees.

It was agreed in a meeting that each student would pay GH¢23 for Basic Education Certificate and Examination fees but some headmasters are allegedly charging more than that, Luv FM’s Erastus Donkor reported.

The correspondent learnt that some heads were charging from GH¢4 to as high as GH¢10 more than the approved fee.

Though some of the schools explained that the additional fees were for mock examination, REGSEC said that was incorrect and demanded that those fees be charged separately.

According to Erastus Donkor, the meeting did not come on because the heads and the Regional Director of Education say they have other equally important engagements, forcing a postponement of the meeting.
