After seven games in the on-going Glo Premier League, Champions Asante Kotoko have identified problems in their attacking department and are in the market for two strikers for the second transfer window which opens between December and January 2013.

This decision was taken at a management and technical team meeting held on Monday after Kotoko’s goalless draw game with rivals Hearts of Oak last Sunday.

In the 7 games played this season, Kotoko have looked dominant but have managed to put in fewer goals than ‘expected.’ They have scored six goals; three of which were scored by striker Kofi Nti Boakye with the remainder spread between Michael Helegbe (midfielder), Joseph Ochaya (defender) and Seidu Bancey (striker).

And this trend is alarming the club’s fans as well as management who have urged the technical team to work on and bolster the team’s performance.

“Our technical team have admitted problems in our attack in putting the final ball at the back of the net and we must fix it to get the team running. The only time we can change it with new personnel will be after January and I can make this point clear that as of Monday’s meeting, the Chairman, Dr. K.K Sarpong had ordered that whatever it takes the coaches to get two out-and-out strikers; we must get them before the second round of the season,” Asante Kotoko’s Public Relations Officer Listowell Yesu Bukarson revealed to Kumasi-based Kessben Fm in an interview on Tuesday.

“We understand it is an added cost but we must do it to get the team running. We will be competing in Africa on and we can’t afford to be playing so well from defence to midfield and fail to put the final ball at the back of the net. The chairman has therefore tasked the technical team to find two potent strikers be it from Ghana or within Africa. Money is not a problem; management will make sure we find the money to buy the players who will score to make our supporters happy,” he explained further.

“This move is not to say we have bad strikers but the circumstances call for us to cushion our attack. I’m sure by January we should be having a very formidable team,” Listowell concluded.

Footy-Ghana.com understands that already, the technical team has started making recommendations while résumés have also started pouring in from agents with strikers from countries across Africa such as Uganda and Burkina Faso.
