A MERE glimpse of his bare bottom under a waterfall shower sent a rumble through the jungle.

And now the secret to boxer David Haye’s rippled physique is out.

The retired heavyweight champion has attributed his admirable muscles to some green algae from Japan.

The I’m a Celebrity contestant’s shower shenanigans earlier this week showed off his years in the gym training for boxing bouts, trumping female contenders Ashley Roberts and Helen Flanagan who have been flaunting their figures in itsy bitsy bikinis.

But Haye has claimed his incredible muscle tone is all down to a bizarre Japanese supplement made from microscopic freshwater algae.

Haye has claimed: ‘My team work hard at making sure I get the world’s finest fighting fuel, that includes Japanese whole food Sun Chlorella.

‘Nutrition is fundamental to getting the most out of all my training and help deliver the knock-out punch.’

The former champion is thought to have been introduced to the supplement by his coach Ruben Tabares who claims the amino acids, chlorophyll, iron and B vitamins in the nutritional supplement boost energy before workouts and CGF (Chlorella Growth Factor) nucleic acids  helps with muscle repair and inflammation afterwards.

The product has been big in Japan for some time while it has built up a cult following in the UK.

Devotees include Victoria Beckham who is said to use it as a dieting tool and Miranda Kerr who take it for its high Vitamin A content which is beneficial for the skin.

But interest in the product, which was previously only available in health food stores, is now expected to mushroom- it has been picked up by Tesco online.

Chlorella priced at £21.95 for a month’s supply in tablet or sachet form supposed benefits include stimulating the growth of good bacteria (Lactobacilli) to aid digestion as well as cleanse the bowel by clinging on to toxins like mercury, lead or pesticides in the intestines.

Marketers claim it contains more chlorophyll, by weight, than any other plant known to man which can help with everything from blocking the absorption of harmful chemicals to improving bad breath.

A study by Sapporo Medicinal University reported that even after a fairly large consumption of alcohol, hangovers can be reduced by up to 96%.

A study by Yonsei University in Korea published in May this year found that it may also benefit the immune system.

Meanwhile the boxer has taken part in another bush trucker trial, which will air during Friday night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity.

The challenge, which is known as Scare Plane, has David balancing in a plane far above the ground.
He then has to try and avoid the various creepy crawlies as he attempts to collect stars.

The boxer appears completely unfazed by the task and continues regardless of what falls on him.

It gets a little hairy when he has to climb on the plane’s wings to pick up stars while even more bugs fall on him .
