Stephen Appiah Explains Botched Move To FC Persepolis

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has denied reports he failed to seal a move to Iranian side FC Persepolis because of health reasons.

The Tehran Times reported last week that coach Manuel Jose rejected the former Fenerbahce star because he was unfit.

But the 31-year-old has explained why he could not join the most popular Iranian side on a free transfer.

“I heard a lot of reports about health reasons and I don’t know where this is coming from. I did not even undergo a medical test,” Appiah told Joy FM

“The President said it was a done deal. And I don’t want to sound like I am blaming the coach but some of the fans confirmed to me that the coach wanted to bring his own players thus failure of the
completion of my move there.”

Appiah held training sessions with the Tehran-based side but did not sign a contract with them.

He has been without a club since end a four-month loan spell at Serbian outfit FK Vojvodina.
