Kenya: We Are Being Intimidated Say Women Aspirants in Murang’a

A group of women aspirants in Murang’a County have accused the provincial administration of interfering with their campaigns as well as discrimination and intimidation.

Led by the Murang’a county women representative aspirant Mary Mwangi and the Ithanga ward representative aspirant Esther Nyakio, the women said the provincial administration does not give them space to conduct their campaigns.

They were speaking at Thungururu Primary School in Kakuzi Division during the Waithera Wamaua Football Tournament.

The women said they have been denied a chance to address residents during barazas. They said some of their meetings have been disrupted by the police.

However, Mwangi said they will not be cowed as it is their constitutional right to campaign. They called on Murang’a county commissioner Kula Hache to intervene and protect women aspirants.
