Gauteng police have re-arrested an alleged serial rapist who escaped from police custody at the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court.

Gauteng – An alleged serial rapist who escaped from police custody at the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court was re-arrested in Hammanskraal, Gauteng police said on Monday.

Isaac Samuel Dibetso, 41, was arrested at a house in Mogogelo Village where he was hiding after police received a tip-off, said Captain Pinky Tsinyane.

“When the suspect realised that the police were there for him, he tried to flee but was apprehended on the scene,” she said.

Dibetso has been on the run since his escape on September 5.

He was alleged to have raped several women in Akasia, Ga-Rankuwa and Pretoria North.

Investigations revealed that Dibetso was targeting women who were desperately looking for jobs.

He would contact and arrange appointments with them.

Tsinyane said on the agreed date, he pretended to take them to the workplace.

“He would lead them to a bushy area where he threatened to kill them and raped them,” she said.

Dibetso was expected to appear in both Pretoria and Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Courts soon to face charges of armed robbery, escaping from lawful custody and several counts of rape.

Investigations were continuing. – Sapa
