When the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospitali in Accra following his sudden illness, he was campaigning non-stop in the Northern Region for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate for the December elections.

In fact, the late Aliu Mahama was tasked by the Akufo-Addo campaign to smoothen the way for the NPP in the three Northern Regions in addition to giving political coaching to the Vice-Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Rumours have it that Aliu Mahama was campaigning with Dr. Bawumia when he felt sick.

Therefore, it would not be out of place to concur with former President Kufuor who said following the death of Aliu Mahama that, “The late Aliu Mahama was very hardworking and died campaigning for the party”.

When the late Aliu Mahama was admitted in hospital and his situation deteriorated, several people within and outside the party went to the hospital to pay him a visit.

Mr. Kufuor was there and so was Dr. Bawumia. There were several NPP big wigs that also went to pay Aliu Mahama a visit.

President Mahama put his presidential campaign aside and rushed down to visit Aliu Mahama.

These visits vividly portrayed the unity and oneness that bond us as a nation.

In fact it also showed how as a people we should be each other’s neighbor and how it is important to show our love to people when they need it most.

But conspicuously missing from the individuals and groups who paid a visit to Aliu Mahama at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is Nana Addo, the very man Aliu Mahama was campaigning for when he felt sick.

When the former vice president was admitted in hospital, Nana Addo was busily campaigning and did not see the need to find time to visit him.

All what Akufo-Addo did was to send Dr. Bawumia to pay him a visit. Insiders within the Akufo-Addo campaign who fear for possible political fallout are saying privately that they warned Akufo-Addo to dash down and visit Aliu Mahama when rumours emerged last week Wednesday that Aliu Mahama had passed on.
