Johannesburg – A Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) rally in Limpopo was disturbed on Saturday by a group of youth supporting deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe.

“It was… a group of few young people wearing Motlanthe T-shirts signalling change with their hands, [they were] singing and chanting,” Cosatu’s provincial chairperson Essob Mokgonyana said.

Mokgonyana said the rally went ahead without any clashes with the group.

The rally, which was held in Nthane Primary School in Sekhukhune, Limpopo, focused on the wild cat strikes in the mining sector in the province and also to help stabilise the National Union of Mineworkers.

He also said even though the rally was not about the African National Congress’s elective conference in Mangaung, another group made gestures in support of President Jacob Zuma to be elected for the second term.
