ITV hit show the X Factor is facing its latest scandal after it emerged that One Direction’s ‘live’ performance on Saturday was recorded last week.

Millions of One Direction fans will be crushed after it was discovered far from being live in the London studios on Saturday evening, the five boys were actually sunning it up in LA.

Screaming fans, a standing ovation from the judges and a huge clap on the back from Dermot O’Leary gave Saturday’s performance the feeling of being as live as Rylan Clark’s Spice Girls medley.

Although never stated as a ‘live performance’, producers did nothing to tell fans the boys were actually in the studio on November 7, even going to the trouble of making sure the judges outfits were exactly the same.

Two places at once: One Direction's Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik spotted in Los Angeles on Saturday...while audiences saw a performance from them at the same time on The X Factor

However, while it appeared to be a live performance – some of the squeaky clean boyband were spotted wandering the streets of Hollywood minutes after their performance was beamed to nation.

A source told MailOnline far from being live, the boys actually performed their new single Little Things at the X Factor studios last Wednesday.

Some viewers would have been left unaware that the pop stars didn’t perform live on the show, and that it was in actual fact a prerecord.

Crushed: Fans will be disappointed after it emerged they weren't in the studios on Saturday, but were in fact L.A.

The judges, wearing the same clothes as the ones during the actual live
show, were spotted on their feet after the performance.

And as Dermot O’Leary interviewed the band, the band chatted happily as
screams continued to be heard from an audience.

However, while fans of the pop sensations were watching the group sing
their new single, they were in fact sunning it up in Los Angeles.

Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson were spotted on Saturday sunning it up in Los Angeles on a shopping trip.

And Zayn seemed to have been pleased with himself as she carried a festive themed shopping bag.

X Factor confirmed to MailOnline the performance had been recorded ‘a few weeks ago’.
