The Nsawam police have arrested two out of six armed robbers who attacked some workers at Akotuakrom sand winning site recently.
The suspects arrested are Kojo Aryee 40, a farmer and Christian Agbeve, 39.
Wielding a pump-action gun, the gang, according to the police, robbed the workers of their daily sales of about GH¢12,000 and personal monies.
ASP Stephen Addom, the Nsawam District Crime Officer in an interview with the DAILY GUIDE said the suspects attacked the victims around 2:55pm last Wednesday after realizing that all attention was on the Melcom Shopping Mall disaster.
The police received a distress call that a gang of armed robbers had attacked a sand winning site at Akotuakrom, a village near Coaltar and moved swiftly.
Upon seeing the police, the four escaped with their booty but the police managed to arrest the two robbers.
Investigations by the police revealed that the gang had earlier seized two payloaders belonging to the victims and had hid them at an unknown location.
He added that police is in the process of retrieving the two payloaders from the suspects.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a search for the other suspects who managed to escape. “The two will be put before court soon after investigations are complete,” ASP Addom added.
