Seriously, Bafunny Bafunny shows are cancelled

Durban – The two Durban performances of the latest touring Bafunny Bafunny show, featuring some of the country’s top stand-up comics, have been cancelled because of poor ticket sales.

The call to cancel the performances, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Durban International Convention Centre, was made by Sam Hendrikse, the chief executive officer of Hunta Live, the tour promoters, who expressed surprise at ticket sales that were so low. “We would have suffered a big loss had we gone ahead with the shows.”

Bafunny Bafunny’s latest show, a nudge-wink at the Olympics, titled the Rings of Fire Tour, has already performed to strong houses in Cape Town and Joburg.

Durban would have seen performances by Chris Forrest, Darren Maule, David Kau, David Kibuuka, Deep Fried Man, Kagiso Lediga, Stuart Taylor and Tumi Morake.

“We are surprised at the ticket sales because Durban, along with the rest of the country, has always given good support to Baffuny Bafunny shows, the three previous years’ shows having been very well attended,” said Hendrikse.

Hendrikse said he still had faith in Durban audiences, and put down the “dismal” ticket sales for this year’s show to a wide variety of local comedy now being available in Durban. – The Mercury
