The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has chastised the opposition New Patriotic Party’s free Senior High School education policy describing it as a “one-legged kwashiorkor” campaign which is crumbling.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, commenting on the latest Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) on Joy FM’s Elections Headquarters slammed the NPP’s flagship policy as one which is crumbling like the unfortunate Melcom building.

“Our opponents do not have credibility. Their campaign is based on what I will call a one-legged ‘kwashiorkor’ Free SHS which is crumbling like the Melcom building because it has no substance, it has no basis and that is the challenge that they have,” he said.

Touching on the EIU report, he said, although they do not accept it, the issue “goes beyond that” and that “poll or no poll we are sure that his Excellency [President Mahama] is going to get a one-touch victory and we’ve been working extremely hard to achieve that objective.”

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, who is the Campaign Cordinator stressed that the NDC is “not basing our victory on a poll, if a poll favours us fine, if it doesn’t favour us fine.”

He added that while they will not blow their own trumpet that they have been able to “solve all the country’s problems”, Ghanaians still have confidence in the NDC and will renew their mandate.

The John Mahama 2012 Campaign Coordinator disclosed that, the party will intensify its campaign for a one-touch victory for President John Mahama.

But John Boadu, Deputy Director of Communication of the NPP said although he has not read the report, he would not rule out the possibility of the NDC abusing incumbency.

He observed that NPP has been conducting its own polls and “if the elections go on smoothly, the Electoral Commission does its job, the security agencies do [their job] without fear or favour, I believe strongly that Nana Addo will be crowned the President of this country come December 7.”
