Nigerians In Diaspora To Remit N4.7 Trillion

BUSINESS activities in the country would soon receive a boost as Nigerians in the Diaspora have promised to support the Federal Government’s transformation agenda by remitting $30 billion (N4.7 trillion) annually to rejuvenate agriculture, power, health, education and communication sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Chairman, All Nigerian Nationals in the Diaspora (ANNID), Dr. Peter Mozie, who revealed the plan to newsmen in Abuja during briefing on forthcoming convention of Diaspora Nigerians in California explained that with the enabling environment created by the Federal Government, Nigerians in the Diaspora were poised to add fillip to the economy by bringing their investments into the country.

Mozie, who is also president of the Diaspora Advisory Council, commended the electoral process in the country and said the group has observed developmental strides in the country’s power sector.

Executive Director, Diaspora Integration and Support Centre (ANNID), Dr. Justina Obi, disclosed that the convention would involve all Nigerians in the Diaspora.

She said speakers at the event would include former U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders; former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter, as well as other dignitaries and government officials from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the business community.

Mozie said:“Statistics from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) shows that Nigerians in the Diaspora have been remitting over $10 billion (N1.6 trillion) annually into the country. But at the end of our group’s convention this month, that amount would triple. This is one of the ways we hope to contribute to improve the economy and encourage development.”

That is encouraging. So, at our convention which will hold in California, Los Angeles from November 29 to December 2, we will have a business forum where we would interface with investors and encourage them on the need to come to Nigeria with their investments, especially in the areas of power, agriculture, health and education sectors of the country’s economy.
