Kunle Afolayan romances MTN …says Glo did not fire him

By Ayo Onikoyi

Weeks after the wave-making film maker, Kunle Afolayan and Globacom, the telecommunications giant, parted ways over what seemed like irreconcilable differences the actor may be back again on a fresh endorsement deal with another telecommunications giant.

This time around, the telecommunications company on the radar of the actor is MTN and this revelation came to the fore at the launch of Afrinolly Short film competition held Thursday at the Southern Sun Hotel , Ikoyi, Lagos. The Afrinolly Short Film Competition is powered by MTN with Kunle Afolayan and Stephanie Linus on the bill as collaborators to support a power pack of judges led by by the likes of Tunde Kelani, Obi Emenloye, Emem Isong and a host of other international movie makers.

*Kunle

Kunle who spoke at the event started his speech with his fall-out with Globacom, insisting he was not fired by Glo contrary to reports in various media. He said he took the decision to leave Glo for reasons best known to him and looking at the logo of MTN boldly displayed behind him on the podium he said “They said I left Glo because this ‘People’ (MTN) wanted me. Well, If you want me, I am available”.

Though this was met with laughter from the audience but the note of seriousness of the matter was left hanging in the air and Kunle once again opened a can of worms when he said he is working on a project that needs funding and once again, looking longingly at the MTN’s Logo he said “I hope they can help”. There were a couple of top MTN bigwigs at the event and Kunle’s intentions obviously, were not lost on them and of course, that may be Kunle’s plan all along.
