Apologize to Orubebe, group tells Melaye

By GAB ejuwa
A
group, Rainbow Coalition for Good Governance, has  asked the  Anti-corruption Network led by Mr. Dino Melaye,  to apologize for misleading the nation over its allegation that N29 billion projects were awarded to fictitious firms by the Niger Delta Ministry under Elder Godsday Orubebe.

The three projects, which Melaye claimed were not existing  include canalization/River Training  of Foupolobulou Ndoro Creek, Canalization at Odoubou, Ogbabagbene and the land reclamation / shore line protection project , all in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a statement, the group’s national coordinator, Mr. Paul Oruma, said “as  stakeholders in the Nigeria Project, we say there is no truth in the allegation by Melaye. They are all lies. Indeed, Elder Orubebe had said that the  projects were existing and verifiable projects awarded in line with extant due process.

“The Federal Government last weekend cleared Orubebe of all the allegations, declaring that the three controversial projects are real, on course and at 65-40 and 18 percent stage of completion.”

The group noted that  last weekend, the Special Adviser to the President on Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Professor  Sylvester Monye, who led reporters to the project sites, debunked the anti-corruption group’s claim that the project did not exist.  Monye also flayed the allegation by Melaye that N29 billion had been paid to the contractors.

The group declared that the insinuations by Melaye were rather malicious, damaging, false, libellous and actionable.

“Not a few million Nigerians believe that Melaye’s orchestrated game – plan of futile campaign of calumny against Elder Godsday Orubebe’s person ridicule his office and portray him as being unfit for future political position at the state and national levels. These shameless people shall be put to shame.

“Our advice to Elder Godsday Orubebe, a man of noble birth and good upbringing is never to succumb to Melaye’s will and expectations and not to allow any primordial motive by some spent forces to derail his  / own ministry’s good plans for the good people of Niger Delta.
