Melcom disaster: Israel emergency assistance to the rescue

The Embassy of Israel on Wednesday said Israeli plan equipped with a team of disaster management experts and doctors are on their way to Ghana to assist with efforts to rescue trapped Ghanaians under rubble of collapsed building.

In a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, the Embassy said following the disastrous collapse of the Melcom building in Achimota; the Israeli Ambassador offered Israeli’s assistance in dealing with the disaster.

“An offer that was gratefully accepted by Ghana… An Israeli jet plane was quickly scrambled, on board a team of professionals with highly advance equipment, and is planned to land as early as tonight.

“The Israeli team will consist of disaster management experts, medical doctors with trauma expertise and rescue specialists. The equipment would include emergency medical equipment, rescue (for example pneumatic scissors) and monitoring equipment.

“Israel is always one of the first to react in situations of disaster management around the world,” the statement stated.

According to the statement with nearly 30 years of experience, the Israeli Rescue teams have saved lives in countries such as Turkey, Greece, Chile, Kenya , India, Thailand, Haiti and most recently Japan.

The Israeli Embassy has opened an emergency center to coordinate the rescue efforts that will be operating around the clock, personally managed by Ambassador who will coordinate the Israeli team’s efforts with the local rescue forces.
