Gunmen invade town over kingship tussle, shoot villagers

The kingship tussle in Ogbaagaa town in Ayedaade Local Government area of Osun has assumed a dangerous dimension following the recent attack on the people of the town by gunmen who shot and injured several residents of the town.

One of those hit by bullets, Mr. Sangogboye Seyi is currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ile.

When he reported the matter at the Gbogon Divisional Police Station, one of the contenders for the kingship position, Chief Michael Oyelowo Oladeji alleged that his opponent, Chief Ajani Ekanade Amusan was the one that invited the hoodlums to the town.

Oyelowo also stated that Ekanade is trying to impose himself on the people of the community as their ruler which the people vehemently rejected. He added that Ekanade brought the thugs to Ogbaagaa to harass his perceived enemies.

But Ekanade denied the allegation during police interrogation and lamented that he has been living in exile since 2006 because his cousin incited the people of the town against him and no one is willing to see him in the town.

The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo for proper investigation.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer for Osun State Command, DSP Folasade Odoro confirmed the incident and told journalist that investigation is still on to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case.
