The gun-wielding suspected armed robbers have been arrested from their hideout by the Accra Regional Police.
The robbers-Richard Elemawusi Gagbe, 26, a car washer, Dela Anani, 24, an aviation security officer at Kotoka International Airport; and George Jabal, 24, a Nigerian labourer, were extracted from their hideout in the Teshie Nungua Greda Estates area.
The suspects had earlier robbed a provisions store and made away with an unspecified amount of money.
Briefing the media, COP Patrick Timbillah, Accra Regional Police commander, said a fourth suspect, however, managed to escape despite sustaining gunshot wounds.
COP Timbillah said around 8:00pm on October 26, 2012 the police received a distress call about the robbery and proceeded to the crime scene.
The suspects, after taking the money, fired into the roof of the shop and into the air to scare any potential pursuers.
On seeing the police, the robbers jumped over a wall into a nearby house.
It took the police about three hours of combing the neighbourhood before they managed to arrest the robbers.
The police retrieved an AK 47 rifle with five rounds of ammunition and other offensive weapons from the robbers.
According to COP Patrick Timbillah, George Jabal was released from prison recently.
Further police investigations disclosed that the gang is part of some notorious armed robbers who have been terrorizing filling stations at Teshie Nungua and surrounding areas.
COP Timbillah appealed to health centres and traditional herbal healers to be on the lookout and report anyone with gunshot injuries to the police.
