Nigeria: CAN Alerts on Looming Food Shortage

Ughelli — AS those affected by the ravaging flood still grapples with the destruction of their farmlands and other personal effects, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State chapter, yesterday charged government at all levels to take appropriate steps towards tackling the looming food shortage in the country.

Chairman of the chapter, Rt. Rev. Diamond Emuobor, who stated this while presenting some food items and other relief materials to flood victims at the Ughelli camp expressed fear that there might be hunger because farmlands have been destroyed.

Similarly, Broadline Construction Company yesterday presented relief materials worth thousands of naira to victims of flood disaster at Cavegina Primary School Camp in Warri. Presenting the items, Managing Director of the Company, Mr Fadi El-Khoury commended Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for the upkeep of the flood victims.

Meanwhile, Levant Construction Limited, a construction firm, donated relief materials and food items worth millions of naira to flood victims in Burutu, Warri South West and Bomadi Local Government Areas of the State.

General Manager of the company, Mr. Elias Elias while presenting the items at the State Government House Annex, Warri, lamented that the ravaging flood wreaked havoc in the affected communities. Also, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, a transport firm, Dominion Express Transport and the National Association of Seadogs, ‘umalokun’ Deck, Ughelli also donated food items and other relief materials worth millions of naira to the victims of flood disaster in Delta State.

Presenting the items donated by the NDDC at the Oleh camp, the Commissioner representing Delta State on the board of the commission, Chief Solomon Ogba said the donation was meant to alleviate the sufferings of the victims.
