I Didn’t Take Bribe From Prophet Nkansah

The embattled Director of Elections of the Electoral Commission, Isaac Kofi Asomaning, has denied ever taking bribe from the flagbearer of the New Vision Party, Prophet Daniel Nkansah.

Mr. Asomaning and his colleague Director of Election Logistics, Asante Kissi were arrested on Monday for allegedly taking Gh¢1,600 bribe from officials of the disqualified party to facilitate their inclusion in the presidential race.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Asomaning said his hands are clean and will cooperate with police investigations to clear his name. He said: “I am surprised and shocked about this allegation. I am very much surprised because I have not demanded anything or any favour from the man. Prophet Nkansah said he gave some money to Asante Kissi; Asante Kissi himself has admitted that I did not know anything about that money. I don’t know what the man is up to.”

Mr. Asomaning further insisted that “I only know him as the leader of the New Vision Party but I do not have any connection with him. It’s just that somebody has decided to soil one’s name because his nomination papers were rejected by the Chairman who is the returning officer. I am not the returning officer and so if I collect any money from him, I cannot influence it [nomination] in any way.”

The two are currently on a police enquiry bail and have since been charged with bribery and corruption.
