Zoomlion’s Dr. Joseph Agyepong voted fifth most respected CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong has been voted the fifth most respected CEO in Ghana. Dr. Agyepong was honoured last Saturday at the State House Banquet Hall alongside his company Zoomlion which placed ninth in the Ghana’s most respected company category.

The awards programme held under the theme “Growing the leadership and talent pipeline” was jointly organized by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Business and Financial Times to reward excellence in corporate Ghana.

The Ghana’s Most Respected Company and CEO Awards is a biennial opinion survey conducted amongst CEOs of various organizations in Ghana.

UT Bank’s CEO, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, was also adjudged the Most Respected CEO for 2012, while UT Bank was also adjudged the most respected company for 2012.

Zoomlion and its CEO rubbed shoulders with of equally competent companies and their CEOs such as Databank Group, Multimedia Broadcasting Limited, Nestlé Ghana Limited, Ecobank Ghana., Kasapreko Company limited, rlg Communications, Vodafone, MTN, Ashesi University, Fidelity Bank and Allure Africa who were all honoured at the ceremony.

In the Survey, CEOs were requested to choose the companies and CEOs they most respected and assign reasons for their choices. The highest nominee for each of these two categories was presented with the Most Respected Company and Most Respected CEO awards respectively.

Over 200 CEOs of medium to large organizations were surveyed on their perception of their peers’ vision and innovation, high ethical standards, promotion of human capital development, good corporate governance and harmonious industrial relations. Others are unique and excellent leadership style, strong brands, excellent business culture and high stakeholders’ value, ethics and code of conduct amongst others.

In an address the country Senior Partner of PWC Ghana Mr. Felix Addo said the objective of this year’s awards is to see how industry has grown leadership and talent over the years.

In an interview after the awards, Dr. Siaw Agyepong revealed that the secret behind his continuous success is working very hard and bringing up new initiatives to complement old ones.

He called on fellow entrepreneurs not to be afraid of the challenges of implementing new ideas but to strive to achieve continuous excellence in their field of endeavours.

Dr. Agyepong started business in the early 1990s but formed Zoomlion Ghana limited in 2006. Today his conglomerate the Jospong Group employs over 150,000 staff under various forms of Public Private Partnerships in Ghana and in other African countries. His businesses are in the area of construction, oil and gas, waste management, skills development, printing, and mining among others.

In 2011, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology conferred an honorary Doctorate Degree on him. He was also adjudged the most influential CEO by an ETV poll in December 2011 as well as the Best Entrepreneur for 2011 by the Entrepreneurial Foundation of Ghana earlier in the year.

Dr. Agyepong was also a finalist in the Masters Category in the West African edition of Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the year 2011 where he contested alongside giant Nigerian companies. Dr. Agyepong and his company Zoomlion has previously been honoured by organizations such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana, Ghana Customer Service Awards, the Times of Africa Magazine based in India, Millennium Excellence Awards and by the Government of Liberia where Zoomlion operates among other prestigious awards.
