Keshi hints on Martins, Kalu Uche recall

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has hinted on recalling Levante ace Obafemi Martins and Kalu Uche ahead of next year’s Nations Cup.

Keshi said 2010 World Cup stars Martins and Uche will be considered for next month’s friendly against Venezuela in Miami, United States of America.

“We only have one friendly before the Nations Cup and that is against Venezuela. And like I have always said, every Nigerian player will get a chance in my team,” Keshi said.

“Hopefully, I would give some players a chance. There are a lot of them I have not seen, the likes of Martins, Kalu and a lot more.”

Martins has not played under Keshi since he took charge of the Eagles in November. The former Newcastle and Inter Milan striker has now settled at Spanish La Liga side Levante, firing two goals so far since his move as a free agent from Russian club Rubin Kazan.

Uche figured in Keshi first friendly games against Botswana and Zambia in November, but has since not got a look-in.

He is currently the leading scorer in the Turkish top flight with Kasimpasa on six goals.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Nigeria U20 stars Kenneth Omeruo and Ramon Azeez will also get their chance against Venezuela.

Organizers for the Venezuela friendly have insisted on the Eagles lining up their top stars for this match.

It will be the second match between the two countries after Nigeria won their first meeting 1-0 in London in 2003 courtesy of an Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha goal.
