Tanzania: Isles Minister Pleads for Public to Lift Women Soccer

Zanzibar — THE Ministry of Information, Culture, Tourism, and Sports said that concerted efforts are inevitable should Zanzibar need to shine in women soccer, currently discouraging.

“We need to change our attitude towards women soccer. Let us join together in promoting women to play football,” Deputy Minister for Sports Ms Bihindi Hamad Khamis said recently in Zanzibar house when responding to Saleh Nassor Juma (CUFWawi).

The House member was joined by his colleagues Nassor Salum Ali (CCM- Rahaleo), and Mwanajuma Faki Mdachi (CUF- Women) to ask why women soccer in Zanzibar had stalled.

The legislators argued that the ministry had not taken women soccer seriously that is why Zanzibar has been recording poor performance, and even women soccer league is inexistent.

But Bihindi said, “my ministry is fully committed to see that women soccer develops, but we have and you the representatives, have the responsibility to promote women soccer in the Islands.”

Zanzibar queen, the Islands’ national women soccer team hardly plays international friendly Matches, and is faced with poverty, the legislators says.
