Rwanda/Tanzania: Local Female Athlete Secures Second Position

RWANDA’s leading female long distance runner Claudette Mukasakindi clocked 1h: 16m: 07s to secure second position in this year’s Rotary Dar Half Marathon held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Sunday.

In doing so, she was Rwanda’s best performer, males and females in a race which was dominated by the host nation runners.

It was Mukasakindi’s first competition since her disappointing show at the London Olympic Games where she finished 88th in the women full marathon.

Tanzanian Mary Naali from Arusha Skytel club won first the race after using 1:13:54 and Anastasia Msindai of Arusha (1:17:12) took the last final podium place. Rwanda’s two-time Olympian Epiphanie Nyirabarame was fourth, using 1:19:37.

In the men’s category, Tanzania’s Dickson Marwa won in the men category, using 1h: 03m: 23s, followed by Felix Alphonse from Arusha with 1: 03:40 and Daniel Rotich of Uganda finished in third place in 1:03:41.

Alex Nizeyimana was Rwanda’s top finisher in sixth position after he clocked 1:03:58, followed by his compatriot Pontien Ntawuyirushintege (1:04:07).
