Nigeria: Aluu Killings – Police Declare Primary Instigator Wanted

The Nigerian Police Force has declared wanted one Coxson Lelebori Lucky, alias Bright, for allegedly instigating the killing of four students of the University of Port Harcourt, by a mob in Aluu community of Rivers State.

Ugunna Obuzor, Lloyd Toku, Tekena Elkanah and Chiadaka Odinga students of the University of Port Harcourt on 5th October, 2012, were lynched and burnt to death by an angry mob on suspicion of armed robbery.

The Nigerian Police spokesman, Chief Superintendent of Police Frank Mba, told pressmen at a briefing in Abuja, that, “it was Coxson Lelebori Lucky also known as Bright who raised the alarm, accusing them of robbery that led to the mob action.”

He further said that, “findings have revealed that the victims had gone to the area where they met their unfortunate death earlier that morning to demand for money allegedly owed to them by Coxson Lelebori Lucky, who raised a false alarm that the victims were armed robbers. “Although, Coxson has gone underground, detectives are on his trail,” Mba said.

Mba also revealed that a total of 21 persons have been arrested by the police in connection to the killings, “The Police immediately launched an investigation leading to the arrest of Alhaji Hassan Welewa, the Traditional Ruler of Omukiri Community, Aluu where the heinous incident took place and eighteen others, some of who are members of the vigilante group of the community.”

He explained that the police were able to trace some of the suspects through gruesome video clips that showed them lynching the four students before setting them on fire.

“Intelligence report implicated Alhaji Hassan Welewa, as being the person who incited the mob to unleash terror on the victims. Further investigation conducted by the police indicates that four suspects, namely: Felemo Solomon; Cynthia Chinwo; Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Samuel Evans have been closely linked to this barbarous act,” he added.

While promising to bring all perpetrators of the dastardly act to book, the police spokesman also warned Nigerians against taking the law into their hands.

The victims – 18 years old Ugunna Obuzor was a 200 Level Geology student, Lloyd Toku aged 19 Years, was a 200 Level Civil Engineering student, while Tekena Elkanah aged 20 Years was a Diploma Technical student, and Chiadaka Odinga 20 Years old was in 200 Level Theatre Arts.
