Tunisia: President Marzouki Reassures Tunisian Community in Kinshasa

Kinshasa — On the sidelines of his participation in the 14th Summit of La Francophonie, organised, on October 12-14 in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), President Mohamed Moncef Marzouki reassured, on Friday, the Tunisian community living there, about the situation in Tunisia.

He pointed out in this regard, that ahead of October 23, a large dialogue has been launched between all parties and political trends.

He added that unfortunately the Tunisian society’s major problems, notably the unemployment, could not be totally resolved in this short period of transition.

The current difficulties, he said, testify to the new dynamic witnessed by the country which is already in gestation.

The ultimate goal, the President of the Republic specified, is to edify a democratic Tunisia where tolerance and co-existence of all trends prevail.

He eventually paid a ringing tribute to the Tunisian army officers, the United Nations’ observers in Kinshasa, who “are contributing to raise Tunisia’s profile in the world.”

For their part, the Tunisian community members deplored the lack of interest of Tunisian promoters in the African market, in spite of its strong potential, falling behind “the Lebanese and Moroccans.”

Besides, they proposed to create a post of “officer in charge of recruitment” in Tunisia’s embassy in Kinshasa, in order to facilitate the arrival of Tunisian youths, given the African Continent’s demand for Tunisian competences.

In a statement to TAP news agency, First Secretary of Tunisia’s Embassy in Kinshasa Hédi L’tifi pointed out that the main problem facing the Tunisian community is the lack of a direct Tunisia-Kinshasa flight which lasts only 6 hours, while currently a similar trip takes more than 24 hours.
