Tunisia through as Leone Stars dream ends

Tunisia

A goalless draw in Tunisia saw Sierra Leone’s dream of reaching the 2013 African Cup of Nations come to an end on Saturday night.

The 0-0 draw means Tunisia progress to the continental showpiece in South Africa next year on the away goals rule after the aggregate score finished 2-2.The Leone Stars were made to pay dearly for their poor defence in the first leg match last month in Freetown where they conceded the two goals that would inevitably see them ousted from the Afcon.Still, they were determined to put up a fight and defy the odds by beating Tunisia in their own back-yard.But it was not to be and matters were made even more difficult for Sierra Leone when they saw Djibril Sanko sent from the field for a bad tackle on Tunisia’s Hamdi Harbaoui. The red card was fully deserved. With the Leone Stars reduced to ten men they never really looked like scoring any goals while Tunisia never showed any signs of attacking prowess. To be honest the game was one to be forgotten as we saw very little action in front of goal. In fact, the only time the match sprung to life was when we saw the red card.Besides from that there was nothing to speak of as Tunisia defended in their numbers, making sure the two goals they scored in Freetown would see them through to the Afcon next year.
