One step away from qualifying for Algeria or Libya

Algeria will be looking expand on their narrow 1-0 advantage over Libya in hope of returning to the African Cup of Nations after a two year absence from the tournament.

Algeria will be hosting the second-leg clash and it is set to be played at 21h30 (CAT) on Sunday evening. The Fennec Foxes missed out on the 2012 tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and it was considered a major disappointment for the North African side that finished an impressive fourth in 2010.An 89th minute strike by Hillal Soudani is the only thing that divides the two countries and with the knowledge, and above all experience, of having been able to pin Algeria back for such a large period of the game, the Libyans could favour their chances of being able to do the same on Saturday night.A 1-0 win for Libya would see the game go into extra time whilst anything bigger would hand them a place in next year’s group stages of the tournament. The Mediterranean Knights were present in the this year’s prestigious tournament but were handed an early elimination in the group stages when they had to compete with the eventual winners Zambia, hosts Equatorial Guinea and the underdogs Senegal. Before that tournament, Libya was absent from the Nations Cup for half a dozen years and they will be itching to make sure the same fate is not handed to them again. The lead Algeria holds is a precious one, but it isn’t one of unreachable standards and Ahmed Saad Osman’s men will be going out full throttle.
