Moyes feels Fellaini needs more protection

Everton manager David Moyes feels midfielder Marouane Fellaini deserves more protection from referees after suggesting he was unjustly treated against Wigan. The Belgian was booked after appearing to lead with his arm while jumping with Maynor Figueroa during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at the DW Stadium, prompting the home crowd to bay for his sending off.But Moyes was angered by the Latics’ tactics and does not feel Fellaini was in the wrong.“Fellaini needs more protection,” said the manager.“He was two foot above Figueroa and anyone who has played the game knows you need to use your arms to get elevation.“I can’t understand why when we have a corner what Fellaini would be doing to the Wigan players? Why would he be trying to foul?”Moyes also added of Wigan’s close-marking on the towering midfielder: “He is just standing there and they are standing on his toes.”Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was fined £10,000 last week over his comments regarding the decisions that went Manchester United’s way when his side lost at Old Trafford.Moyes believes those remarks may have influenced Saturday’s game, adding: “I think Roberto has done a good job over the last few days of making sure that the referees have given them what was required.”
