The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) on Monday confirmed that the border with with Cote d’Ivoire, was re-opened.

“The border was reopened this morning,” Mr Francis Palmdeti, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

He said Ghanaian and Ivorian officials have scheduled a meeting for Monday morning at Elubo to discuss the details.

The Ivorians closed their land and sea borders as well as their air space with Ghana on September 21 after an attack at a border post that they claimed was carried out by armed men who crossed from Ghana.

Since then, the land border was opened only a few hours a day. Ghana has vigorously denied the claim with President John Mahama giving the assurance that Ghana will not allow its territory to be used as a lunchpad for attacks on neighbours.

The air space was later reopened after talks between officials of the two countries.
