A 96-year-old woman and her 55-year-old gardener were found dead in her Klerksdorp house, North West police said on Sunday.

Captain Amanda Funani said the bodies of Elizabeth Louw and Gert Marks were discovered in Louw’s house in Wilkopies on Saturday afternoon by her friend.

“It is alleged that both victims were suffocated and strangled. The old woman was tied with shoe laces on her feet and arms before she was killed,” Funani said in a statement.

“The perpetrators fled the scene with the deceased’s jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money.”

Funani said Louw’s sister became suspicious when she did not answer or return her calls.

No one was arrested and investigations were continuing, Funani said. – Sapa
