Evans Kangwa of Nkana

Zambia and Nkana Evans Kangwa says he is overwhelmed to have won the 2011 national junior sports man award.

The 20-year-old former Orlando Pirates target said in Kitwe that the award has motivated him to work hard.

“I am very honored. It is a pleasure for me. This award is very important to me as a young player,” Kangwa said but who could not travel to Lusaka to receive his award on October 5 due to league commitments back at Nkana on Saturday.

“To the National Sports Council of Zambia, I really appreciate the recognition.”

Kangwa had a successful 2011 winning the COSAFA Youth Championship with the Zambia Under-20 team in Botswana where he also emerged as top scorer with seven goals that attracted some interest from Pirates.

He also ended the 2011 season as joint top scorer with 16 competitive goals.

However, injuries hit his form in the first half of 2012 and he has scored just four goals so far this term.

“I have to continue working hard and put in more effort. The more trophies you win the more challenges come your way,” Kangwa said who was a member of Zambia’s 2012 Africa Cup winning team in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
