Party Executives In Ketu-South Swaying The Youth To Violence

A youth leader has rapped political party representatives in the Ketu-South Constituency for swaying the area’s youth to riotous behaviour through lies and exaggerations on political platforms.

Mr Christian Yevunya, Chairman of the Concerned Aflao Youth Association (CAYA), said the militancy and fanaticism reflected in the campaigns especially on radio programmes was misleading the youth.

Speaking at a conference organized by the Aflao Police Command for Political Party Representatives at Aflao, he said CAYA was worried the trend could jeopardize the peace in the area.

“Exaggerations and insults that members of political party communication teams pour out on the air waves, with the intent of gaining political advantage was dangerous for our youth,” Mr Yevunya said.

The CAYA Chairman noted that though freedom of speech was guaranteed the law frowned on reckless and irresponsible comments, behaviour and utterances and appealed to the parties to re-examine their postures in the interest of peace and development.

Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Conventions People’s Party, (CPP), Progressive People’s Party, (PPP) and the People’s National Convention, (PNC) attended the conference.

The conference was part of programmes by the police to prepare a sound ground for free and peaceful elections this year in the area.

Mr Emmanuel Odonkor, Aflao District Police Commander, asked the parties to accord respect to their opponents and avoid acts that will result in tension and breach of the peace.

Mr Odonkor said Police and other security agencies in the constituency were ready with strategies to ensure a peaceful, free and fair election.
