Nigeria/South Africa: Go for Goals, Howard Charges Flying Eagles

Former Flying Eagles captain, Franklin Howard has urged the national U-20 team to beat their South African counterparts clean this weekend in Ilorin, as doing this would brighten their chances of retaining the African Youth Championship billed for Algeria next year.

Also ex- Green Eagles forward, Henry Nwosu said the 1-1 away draw the team had a fortnight ago was a good result that would ginger the team to victory over the South Africans, adding, ” I want to call on all Nigerians to turn out en-mass to cheer them to victory. I have no doubt they are committed to winning for the country.”

Howard said, ” I must warn that 1-1 leaves the game open all the same, our boys still have the advantage to beat South Africa and this is by scoring as many goals as possible. I think that will boost their morale and chances of going to the final and doing well”.

Howard, a former Shooting Stars and Union Bank coach said he has personally told the Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh to work on the team’s cohesion to ensure ball-holding and control.

“I noticed that in the first leg, the boys lost control too often. But if he could correct such lapses and ensure they shoot to target and score then we are there,” Howard said.
