‘Don’t DiscriminateAgainst Any Citizen’

Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor

Former Interior Minister during the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, Dr. Addo Kufuor has admonished the Ghana Police Service not to discriminate against citizens of the land based on their political, religious, ethnic affiliations.

He said the neutrality of the police service was crucial in maintaining the unity and peace flourishing in the country.

As the December general elections draws closer, Dr. Kufuor, who is also the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia Constituency, appealed to the police service and for that matter all security agencies in the country to act professionally while discharging their crucial duties.

Dr. Kufuor disclosed this while addressing a section of the media when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP presidential candidate, who is on a 10-day campaign tour of the Ashanti region, stormed Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano North Constituency on Friday.

He noted that personnel of security agencies, which are entities of the state, should at all times be guided by the ethics and principles of their noble profession, adding that the security agencies should never kowtow to pressure from any quarters.

Dr. Kufuor said the security agencies in the country, especially the police service commands a lot of respect among the populace because of their neutrality, especially during general elections.

He therefore appealed to the police to work hard by exhibiting professionalism before, during and after the general elections so as to continue to command respect and trust of the people.

Dr. Kufuor said the police service should deal with any citizen that would breach the laws of the land equally as the constitution stipulates, warning that discrimination against people due to their political affiliations would not be in the interest of the state.

Touching on the Nana Akufo Addo’s campaign for the presidency, he said the entire hierarchy of the NPP was united to help the flagbearer develop the country.

According to him, Nana Akufo Addo’s free Senior High School (SHS) policy was needed by the country therefore the rank and file of the NPP should campaign vigorously to help the NPP leader to win the elections and implement his enhanced policies for Ghana.

The former Defence Minister during the previous NPP administration said education holds the key to Ghana’s future, insisting that free SHS education was attainable.

He urged Ghanaians to vote massively for Nana Akufo-Addo in the December general elections in order to assuage the suffering of Ghanaians.
