John Mahama Ignores Binduri, Builsa South

President John Mahama

THE PROBLEMS in the newly-created Binduri district in the Upper East region seem to be far from over as President John Mahama and the regional executive of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) have passed it over in the nomination of District Chief Executives (DCE) for new districts created this year.

Only two out of the four new districts created in the region by government have had DCEs nominated.

No DCE nominee was named for the Builsa South district and this is not surprising because that district has not been taken seriously since its creation and inauguration.

Prior to inauguration of the Binduri district, which also has no DCE nominee, some citizens agitated over the location of temporary structures for take-off of the district at Bazua instead of Binduri.

There were even some legal threats to annul the inauguration of the Binduri district because it was held at Binguri instead of the district capital Binduri.

Two persons contested the Binduri DCE nomination and one Daniel Adoliba, according to information was allegedly more qualified than the other contestant, Binduri Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Osman Alem Akasum.

A DAILY GUIDE source said the President had not been able to nominate a DCE for the district following an alleged threat by Alhaji Akasum to either defect from the NDC or take his life,
if anybody else apart from him was nominated for the position.

Another source within the NDC at Binduri said it was an open secret that Alhaji Akasum had been pleading with Deputy Minister of Education and NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga to help become the DCE and in return was expected to campaign for Ayariga.

According to the source on September 19, some influential persons in the Nyorigin community called Ayariga to a meeting where he was allegedly asked to ensure that the chairman got the position or else they would not vote for him.

Alhaji Akasum has however denied ever threatening to leave the party or take his life saying “whoever told you that has not been fair to me, how can anyone think of taking his own life because of a DCE position. It is not true…the President has the right to nominate who he deems fit for the position. Who am I an individual to stop the President from nominating a DCE? We have even not been told the outcome of the vetting, so why would I be threatening if am not made the DCE.”
