East Africa: Local Airline to Fly National Flag in Tourney

EAGLE Wings will fly the nation’s flag in the prestigious Africa Club Championships slated for Cote d’Ivoire mid this month. Assistant team manager Agina Wesonga said the government has accepted to fund the team’s air fare to West Africa and accommodation.

The 12-team tournament will take place between October 19-28 in Abidjan. Wings, who are also the reigning national champions, still need to raise money for participation and players allowances.

Wings and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) qualified for the event during the Zone Five meeting in Kampala, Uganda last month. Nigerian club First Deepwater and Abidjan Basketball Club (ABC) from Ivory Coast booked their tickets from the ongoing Zone Six qualifiers in Maputo, Mozambique. Defending champions Interclube and 1st Agosto from Angola are also favoured to sail through to the main Africa show.
