Truck load of unregistered drugs impounded in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT—National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has taken delivery of impounded truck load of unregistered pharmaceutical products worth N14.8 million.

Zonal Public Relations Officer, South-South, of the agency, Mr. Cyril Monye, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday, said the unregistered drugs were impounded by the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘C’.

NAFDAC Coordinator, Edo State, Mr. David West, was quoted as saying: “The truck loaded with drugs worth N14.83 million  was intercepted by men of the Customs on routine patrol on Benin–Asaba highway and on close examination, the consignments were discovered to be unregistered.”

He said no arrest was made as the driver of the truck abandoned the vehicle and took to his heels on sighting the customs officials.

The impounded pharmaceutical products included Ampiclox (ampicillin + cloxacillin) 250mg/ml, Nilstat (Nystatin) oral drops 30ml, and Aeroline Evohaler 100mg, among others.
