Somalia: Blasts Rock Port City of Kismayu

Kismaayo — Witnesses say huge blasts heard Tuesday in the heart of once Al shabab stronghold of Somalia’s southern port city of Kismayo, a day after Somali and AU forces moved in the city.

The first explosion which was a land-mine hit an army base near the district administration office building, causing unconfirmed casualties.

The second went off inside the port, targeting Somali and Kenyan forces. No losses reported.

Minutes after, a third bomb exploded in a base, where pro-government Raskamakoni militia fighters are stationed. It was immediately unclear where there have been casualties in the multiple blast happened in the city on Tuesday.

Somali and Kenyan army officers are having an emergency meeting at the airport to discuss the worsening security and explosions.

Meanwhile, Somali defense ministry and Somali national army commanders warned the allied forces possible attacks and urged to be more vigilant entering Kismayo, saying Al shabab could plant explosives in the bases they vacated Friday.
