Army Beef-up Security In Bawku For Election 2012

As part of measures to beef up security in the Bawku Municipality and its environs towards election 2012, the security apparatus are embarking on daily root marches in the municipality to create awareness of their presence.

The exercise aims to inform the people of the security readiness to combat crime and protect lives and property in the area.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bawku, the Bawku Municipal Police Commander Chief Superintendent Samuel Allordey said the exercise was also to keep the personnel fit in order to put them on the ground to perform their duties as expected.

He stated that it was also to foster the brotherly relationship between the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and other sister security services serving in the area.

Chief Superintendent Allordey said apart from that measure, the security had put in place others, including vehicle and foot patrols that would maintain peace during and after the election.

He called on the security personnel to perform their duties with professionalism in order to accomplish the aim for which they had been deployed in the area.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Adamu Seidu, Divisional Crime Officer, called on the youth in the area to eschew violence because the law was not going to compromise with anyone who flouted the law.

DSP Seidu disclosed that violence was a tool for destruction and that there was the need to stay away from violent behaviour and urged the youth not to allow themselves to be used by irresponsible politicians to foment trouble, because it would destroy their future.

He asked parents to continue to give the right training to their children as they were the right agents of change for them.

He called on the people living in the area to build trust and confidence in the security.
