Maltina Dance All Season Six Grand Finale: Who Wears The Crown Today?

Zibe-FamilyIF any brand desires huge returns, then a unique consumer engagement and experiential platform is an absolute necessity. The Maltina Dance All (MDA) conceptualised as a unique platform with the passion to entertain, bond and encourage the restoration of values to the family, has indeed encapsulated the interest of consumers and television viewers across the country in a manner no other consumer engagement platform has consistently achieved in Nigeria.

Senior Brand Manager Maltina, Mrs. Ngozi Nkwoji, speaking on the goal of the MDA concept explained that the Maltina story has been the story of fun, sharing happiness and encouraging an atmosphere for the Nigerian family to bond with each other and with other families.

“The MDA concept brings families together in a captive environment where they strive to outdo each other through the mastery of various types of local and international dance styles. The varied dance types include Wazobia, Jive, Pantomime, Gunboot and Salsa. The concept also provides an experiential marketing platform, which the brand deploys to resonate with brand loyalists and the society in general. Furthermore, this platform, apart from enabling families from various ethnicities to adopt the dance styles of others, acts as a means to bond these families thereby building stronger family values and affinity,” she said.

Millions of regular television viewers in Nigeria since 2007, when Maltina Dance All, was introduced, would attest that the show has no doubt, remained Nigeria’s first and only family dance TV show featuring families from various regions across the country. From the 2007 edition which produced the Onye Family as winners, Maltina Dance All has gone through five highly successful seasons. In 2008 it was the Opuwari Family that carted away the star prize. In 2009, the Ibiams were voted the nation’s best dance family. The Adejoh’s were champions in 2010, while in 2011, the Ekubo’s were crowned the best dance family.

The highly competitive regional auditions held in Abuja, Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Benin and Enugu produced eight winners from each of the regions. After series of screening, the winners were whittled down to 15 and were invited to an intense and grueling boot camp. At the end of the day, 10 lucky families eventually made it to the famous Maltina Dance Academy.

Today, this experiential missile reaches its final stage of detonation as five families that have qualified for the Maltina Dance All Grand Finale gather for the final show down, live at The Expo Center, Eko Hotel and Suites.

On this entertainment battle field are the Efiokwu, Green, Eghove, Boyle and the Zibe families. One out of the five families that made it to this grand finale will be voted for and picked by Nigerians as the winner of the grand prize of N6 million and a brand new car. There is a cash prize of N1 million and N500, 000 for the First and Second runner up winners, respectively.

The five families that have made it to this level were able to survive the six different dance styles comprising Wazobia, Salsa, Contemporary, Gumboot and Hip-Hop dance styles. From the 10 families that made it to the academy, the first set of families to leave the academy were the Ozurumba and Nwogwugwu families when they failed to please the judges after the Wazobia and Salsa performances. The Wazobia performance had the Ozurumba and Nwogwugwu families put up for eviction while the Salsa performance had the Okasia family as the only family put up for possible eviction. The three families had to come back to the stage at the first eviction show down to win the hearts of the judges to make it back into the academy. At the end of the first eviction show, only the Okasia family made it back into the academy.

The second phase of the show was the contemporary African dance and Gumboot dance steps. The contemporary African dance performances were quite exhilarating. After that performance, the Amilo and Onyebuagu families were put up for possible eviction. They had to come back and perform at the eviction showdown alongside the Efiokwu and Okasia families that were earlier put up for eviction from the Gumboot performance. At the eviction show down, the four families came back to compete and the judges did what has never been done before in the history of Maltina Dance All. The audience was given the opportunity to vote either the Amilo or the Okasia families back into the academy. Eventually, the audience voted the Okasia family back into the academy, thus, effectively ending the stay of the Amilo family in the competition.

It is remarkable to note that the Amilo family was thankful even in defeat. After their eviction, they thanked Maltina for making it that far in the academy. On the other hand, the Okasia family was excited as the audience voted them back into the academy and thanked the audience for restoring their hope of winning the grand prize.

After the second eviction show down, the seven remaining families were introduced to the last two dance styles to usher them to the grand finale, the Hip-hop and Pantomime dance styles. After the hip-hop performance, Zibe and Okasia families were found wanting and the judges had no option but to put them up for possible eviction, making it the third time the Okasia family was put on the dreaded eviction burner. For the Pantomime performance, the Onyebuagu and Boyle families were the unfortunate duo to swallow the eviction pills. It should be noted that, this was the very first time the Boyle family was being put up for eviction. At the eviction show down, the four families began their campaign to greatness with each performing the hip-hop dance with great dexterity. At the end of the pantomime performance, the jobs of the judges were really compounded as all the four families were in superlative form. At the end Zibe and Boyle families were picked to join the other three families for the live grand finale show of today.

At this stage, it is the votes of viewers that count and will be the sole determinant of who will eventually go home with the grand prize of N6 million and a brand new car.
