Agunloye carpets ACN over traitor tag

BY DAYO JOHNSON
AKURE — FORMER Minister of Defence, Dr. Olu Agunloye yesterday took on the Director General of Akeredolu Campaign Organization, ACO, Chief Tayo Alasoadura over his comment that he was a traitor for dumping Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, for the ruling Labour Party, LP.

Agunloye  speaking through the spokesman of the Omoluabi Platform, Mr. Wemi Ajegbemiga, said the officials of the ACN should stop castigating him and destroying his hard earned reputation on the altar of politics.

Ajegbemiga said the statement credited to former Commissioner was misinformation about Dr. Agunloye.

To put the record straight, Omoluwabi spokesman said it was Alasoadura who was full of deceit by misinforming the national leaders of ACN of a non-existing network he said he put in place towards actualizing his candidacy within the party.

He alleged that Alasoadura had no network, except some amount of money he spent to bring people together for his decamping rally sometimes in Akure.

Ajegbemiga said the word betrayal used by Alasoadura is “baseless and unfounded,” saying, “Agunloye never betrayed anybody.”

Also, another former governorship aspirant of the ACN, in Ondo State, Senator Omololu Meroyi yesterday dumped the party for the PDP.

Senator Meroyi who was in the National Assembly between 1999 and 2003 represented Ondo South Senatorial District of the state.

Addressing newsmen in Akure, Meroyi described the ACN as  a “sinking ship which has no chance of winning the October 20 governorship election in the state.

He lambasted the regional integration of the Sout-West geo-political zone being championed by the ACN.

But the Director of Publicity of the ACN, Rotimi Agbede described the defection of Meroyi to PDP as a good riddance to bad rubbish.

Agbede said that Meroyi is a spent bullet with no followers.
