Rubicon, Max Air Jostle For Nigerian Cup Final

THE on-going MTN Katsina 2012 International Polo Tournament, which enters its final stage this weekend, is bracing up for one of its major highlights with the final of the Nigerian Cup and the General Hassan Cup making all the headlines ahead of the grand finale.

The Nigerian Cup, which is one of the oldest polo prizes, and the General Hassan Cup have been the major prizes in the prestigious MTN Katsina Polo extravaganza and for this year, three teams are vying for the high stake crown that would be decided before a full house at the foremost Sir Usman Nagogo Polo theatre.

The two finals promise cracking games, as the players have vowed to match their opponents move for move and skills for skills in the battles for the coveted trophies at stake.

General Hassan Katsina, whose name is being honoured with the tournament, was until his death, the Life Chairman of the Nigerian Polo Federation (NPF) and many first class Emirs across the northern region are expected to grace the grand fiesta that has been attracting top corporate chieftains and polo enthusiasts in their thousands since it galloped off with fanfare last weekend.

The tall ambition of Katsina Gobarau winning the coveted Coomassie Cup ran into turbulence as it was summarily dismissed by Katsina Tarno and Katsina Rimi respectively. Also out of reckoning in the race for the low-goal prize is Minna Tunga, which suffered defeat by Katsina Tarno.

The prestigious MTN Polo festival is billed to climax this weekend with the final of the Dikko Memorial Cup, which is certain to go straight out of the roof as the Nigerian Cup winner confronts a strong field of selected top professionals in the last game of the tournament.

Meanwhile, telecoms giant, MTN, which is the sponsor of games, has rolled out series of mouthwatering propositions for its teeming Muslim population in Nigeria, who have been enjoying the networks massive attention since the Ramadan Festival. The freebies, which started from September 10, will end on December 10 2012.
