Man petitions IGP over mother’s mysterious death

A 35-year-old man, Ovie Emeserhire, whose mother, Ms. Josephine Diemudeke, was mysteriously  murdered, six months ago,  has called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP,  to probe the circumstances surrounding her death.

He also urged the IGP to probe a supposed attempt by the Police in “B” Division, Warri, Delta State to shield the suspect.

Emeserhire and members of his family in a petition,  dated September 10, addressed to the IGP,  through his lawyer, Mr. Jonathan Ekperusi, alleged that his mother was invited to the house of the suspect, January 1,  only  for her body to be discovered weeks after in the morgue of the Central Hospital, Warri.

He said police officers at “B” Division refused to act on the report of the murder of his mother until the family petitioned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, Benin, following which the suspect was arrested and detained by detectives from Asaba.

Emerserhire said he saw the remains of his mother in the mortuary with injuries and was, therefore, aghast that the police introduced an autopsy report, stating that she died of severe hypertensive cardiovascular and subarachnoid hemorrhage, suggesting that she died a natural death.

“It is our clients’ strong belief that the autopsy report was compromised. The report on its face is of questionable integrity, as the report does not indicate which medical facility or institution issued it. More worrisome is that fact that whereas,  it was Dr. Chukwuemeka Charles Nwafor that conducted the autopsy investigation, the report was purportedly issued by one Dr. Wilson Akhiwu on a pre-printed medical certificate of Cause of Death, apparently from Dr. Wilson Akhiwu’s private medical practice, ” his counsel stated.
